BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU’s men’s basketball team secured a dominant 93-58 victory over New Orleans on Monday night. Michael Nwoko scored 22 points, and Marquel Sutton and Pablo Tamba recorded double-doubles as the Tigers extended their winning streak.
Nwoko was 9 of 13 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line for the Tigers (2-0). Sutton hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Tamba had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Reed, coming off the bench, scored 15 points and had seven rebounds in just 17 minutes.
LSU started fast, with Sutton hitting back-to-back 3-pointers during an early 12-2 run to take a 14-point lead in the first nine minutes. Churchill Abass had a dunk, Kedrick Osby hit a 3-pointer in transition, and Coleton Benson added two free throws to get New Orleans within 27-20 with eight minutes left in the first half.
Nwoko scored the next five points to push LSU’s lead to 12, but New Orleans kept chipping away until Enzo Boudouma hit a 3-pointer and Jakevion Buckley made the second of two free throws to make it 35-30 with 3:17 to go before halftime. Reed and Robert Miller III then took over scoring for LSU in a 9-2 run, and the Tigers took a 44-32 lead into the break.
Reed scored seven straight points during a 20-5 run, and LSU extended its lead to 64-37 eight minutes into the second half.
For the Privateers (2-1), Buckley finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Benson added 10 points.
